Pepper Spray Precautions

div>I was reading a article on “How to use Pepper Spray Effectively” and found it very interesting. The author had some good points about using the pepper spray, but one paragraph stuck out in my mind. This is the paragraph, “Practicing with an actual canister full of pepper spray should only be done outdoors and away from people. Many people do purchase a second canister for practicing. The first step is to practice your draw and aim. You don’t want to fumble with the canister, looking for the safety mechanism, when you’re confronted by a dangerous person. To test out the pepper spray itself, aim at a tree or shrub. Stand upwind, and avoid walking into the spray’s path before it has time to dissipate. Begin with light pressure to determine the amount of pressure you need on the device. Take note of the stream’s path so that you can learn how to aim the device most effectively.”. Do you see the potential problem here? What happens if the attacker comes at you and has the wind at his back? If you spray him, will the wind blow the mist back into your face as well? Now don’t don’t get me wrong, I think pepper spray is a very good self-defense product. But I would use it as a back up self-defense weapon.

My first choice would be a Taser or stun gun. If I’m about to be attacked, I would stun him with a high voltage stun gun. Once he’s on the ground trying to recover from the stun, then I would mace him with the pepper spray. Not only will he have trouble standing up, but he will also have a problem seeing which way I went. Now I know some of you think this is a very cruel thing to do. But I have to be honest with you, my compassion went out the window a long time ago. If a person attacks you, it’s quite apparent he has no regards for you. So why should you be compassionate for him? After all, HE ATTACKED you! Look at it this way. If he suffers enough he will think twice before he tries to attack someone again.
